Acuren Inspection is currently recruiting for a Metallographer to support our operations in West Boylston, MA. The successful candidate will be performing routine metallographic evaluation of prepared metallic specimens in accordance with client requirements and internal procedures.

Responsibilities

1) Conducts microscopic, macroscopic, and other tests and investigations on samples of metals and alloys for purposes as metallurgical control over products or use in developing new or improved grades and types of metals, alloys, or production methods: Helps laboratory personnel in preparing of samples, such as polishing or etching, and designates area of sample where microscopic or macroscopic examination is to be made.

 

2) Studies photomicrographs and performs microscopic examinations on samples to determine metal characteristics, such as crystal structure, porosity, and homogeneity.

 

 3) Interprets findings and prepares drawings, charts, and graphs for inclusion in reports for reference or instruction purposes, and writes reports regarding findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

 

4) Coordinates and participates in performing special tests, such as end-quench hardenability, bend and tensile, and grain size tests.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or two years of post-high school studies in relevant technical field.
  • Minimum 3 years in materials laboratory setting or materials-related field. Aerospace industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed technical specifications and drawings
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent English communication skills including correct basic grammar, spelling, punctuation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Keyboarding proficiency (40 wpm preferred).
  • Ability to safely carry out oral and written work instructions.
